Hair Drama: Getting to know the Director

Felicia Brown is the Founder and CEO of Mahaqni Sophisticated Looks, a full-scale beauty empire that includes a hair salon, original hair care products, a very popular make-up line, a hairstylist/make-up artist network and a clothing line. She has over 14 years of experience in the beauty & fashion industries and has been hired to work with several celebrities and designers including Martin Lawrence during his filming of the movie Bad Boys.
Felicia became an entrepreneur at the age of nineteen and entered the beauty industry at the age of twenty-five. She has developed several hair-care products including: the Mahaqni - Satin Wrap Cap and Mahaqni Cocktails, a blend of natural products created in her salon that will help treat and restore damaged hair.
She has helped over 500 stylists get their cosmetology licenses as hair braiders, body wrappers and hair wrappers and continues to travel across the country sharing the knowledge that she is gifted with.
Her education includes: Miami Jackson Senior High School, Florida Memorial University, Miami Dade Community College (Police Academy), Dudley’s Beauty School and a Non-Surgical Hair Replacement Certification.
With all of the success God has blessed her with, Felicia believes it is her duty to give back. In June of 2009, she launched Nickles For Our Youth©, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people through education and arts.
The organization helps students get a jump start in the professional arena by teaching a variety of skills that will be useful in the workforce. They include: hairstyling, make-up artistry, fashion design, acting, modeling and theater production.
Felicia uses these activities to promote nonviolence and increase self-esteem. Every year she sponsors back to school makeovers for kids in the community and hosts Mahaqni pageants for kids & teens. Also, since she is so passionate about living a healthy lifestyle, Felicia holds a health and beauty fair for all ages that is always well attended.
As a full-time parent, Felicia hopes to leave a legacy for her 14-year-old daughter, Micquel Goins. “I don’t want Micquel to have to go and work for someone, I want her to be able to take over the empire that her mother has built,” Felicia remarked.
Felicia was a full-time Police Officer for the City of Miami, but retired in June of 2008 to focus completely on utilizing the gifts that God has blessed her with. She desires to continue the expansion of her empire by becoming a major stylist in the entertainment industry.
As a loving and giving person, Felicia doesn’t mind having to wear so many different hats because she believes with God she can achieve any given task. “Any dream I reach out to is attainable as long as I keep God first,” Felicia said.
